Born in Coimbra, Ni Ferreirinha began his musical studies at the Conservatory of Music of Coimbra, where he attended courses in Classical Guitar and Piano, later expanding his training with studies in Jazz, specializing in Electric Bass.
He has been a member of several academic Fado groups, including the renowned Acapella, and quickly stood out for his versatility as an instrumentalist. Over the years, he has collaborated on numerous projects within the realm of traditional and popular Portuguese music, working with artists such as Manuel Rocha, Ricardo J. Dias, Luís Pedro Madeira, Catarina Moura, and Hugo Natal.
Ni Ferreirinha has participated in several recordings dedicated to both the Fado of Coimbra and the Fado of Lisbon, and has shared the stage with some of Portugal’s most prominent musicians, including Vitorino, Janita Salomé, Ana Moura, Camané, Ricardo Ribeiro, and Cuca Roseta.
He is currently the bassist for the group Pensão Flor, performing regularly in Portugal and abroad. He represented Portugal in Caracas, invited by the Portuguese Embassy in Venezuela, where he performed in two concerts — the most recent alongside the Venezuelan Symphony Orchestra — and, in 2016, collaborated with the Jazz Symphonic Orchestra of São Paulo, conducted by João Maurício Galindo.
In Portugal, he maintains a close artistic relationship with the Orquestra Clássica do Centro, participating in several concerts, including the original production “Ricardo Ribeiro canta Coimbra”. He also served as artistic director of Francisco Costa’s solo project, whose debut album won the Edmundo Bettencourt Award 2023, bestowed by the Municipality of Coimbra for Best Album of Fado and Song of Coimbra.
